I'm not even sure this blog will work in the manner blogs are supposed to work. Here goes....
The fall book fair came to an end today. A little bittersweet if you ask me. The kids loved coming in to browse and buy from the selection of books. I only helped out for one of the 5 days. But in that day I saw how awesome the PTA really is. Did I mention this is my first year being a part of any PTA? It's the PTA volunteers that setup the books, pens, pencils, erasers, bookmarks, trinkets, registers, and EVERYTHING. It's the PTA volunteers that keep the book fair running, by showing up early and staying late; by restocking the tables and shelves, by manning the registers. Do you know how hard it is to count out tightly rolled up sweaty bills while there's a line of eager kids?! Or how tedious it can be to count all the coins to make sure the kids don't give you too much or too little? And it's the PTA volunteers who end up staying well past the last bell of the day (almost 2 hours). Because on the last day of the book fair there is money to be counted and totaled and books to be packed (which was its own ordeal). Our amazing PTA not only gave their time but also gave back to the school. How? By having a raffle for the teachers. 6 teachers won $50 each to spend at the book fair. That's $300 total! The PTA really does make a difference and these ladies are inspiring. I'm already planning to volunteer and help with the setup (and manning of a register or two) for the Spring Book Fair in 2018.
